‘The Haunting” is a classical psychological horror movie, filmed in1963 by Robert Wise. It is about four people, Nell, Theo, Luke and Dr. Markway , who gather in an old house, called the Hill House, in order to take part in an experiment. Dr. Markway hopes that he will find proofs of the existence of the supernatural. After they all meet strange things start to happen.
Most them have to do with Nell, who is the main character of the movie. It is like the house is interested in her. It seems to always be watching her and it is drawing her into it. She is frightened but she also kind of enjoys the attention the house affords her. At the end Nell becomes drawn by the forces into the house that is taking over her.
What is making this film amazing is the fact that it leaves everything in our imagination. Things do go bump, but we never see them. There are no too violent scenes, no monsters or ghosts, but it does not fail to scare the audience. The dark lighting, music, which was really intense in some parts of the film, the amazing settings and castle, and finally the director’s view and shooting angles were the things that created a scary and spooky atmosphere.
